Martha,

I agree with you. Oprah often generates a visceral reaction - people either love her or hate her. I am sure plenty of people will criticize her for making more money out of people's misfortunes; or for choosing the "wrong" people in need; or even for monetizing altruism. Yet reality is that, as you said in your comment, the show may inspire others to think of what they do for others.

Good luck with the challenge in your web site: I have found it really hard to incite others' to action; As you may have seen in the web site, I had a contest running last month to get some feedback and stories, and no one entered. But like you, I will continue to work on inspiring others to act, to be more altruistic, and to give their kindness to others.

Best of luck, and visit us often. We should think of ways to join hands in our very similar quests.

I have to say that people will be critical of the show I know, but at least it is something headed in the right direction. If we want change we have to watch it on TV as they only put on what we are willing to watch. I hope people will want to do more for the people in their community. I hope children will learn about all the needs there are in this world.
I have put a challenge out there on my blog for people to give part of their US tax refund to work it would for those in need. My desire is to encourage as many people to do something with this show instead of just watch and wish it was different.
