Don’t know where to Start?

Here are some ideas!
If you have more good ideas, use the comments box at the end of this page to add to our list!
Unexpected Gifts
- Buy a packet of nuts, some cereal, and a few chocolates from the supermarket; and drop them in the ‘collections’ box of a homeless person
- Buy some ’scratchies’ and carry them with you to give to people that would not expect it (the guy at the supermarket checkout that looks like he has had a long day; the girl that just got of the phone with an angry customer, etc)
- Order some ‘Get-Out-Of-Hell-Free‘ cards and have them available for people that look like they need a break in their day
Acts of Kindness
- Find the nearest home for aged care; then pay them a visit and offer to spend an hour or two with someone who doesn’t get many visitors. Talk, play chess, or do anything this person finds entertaining.
- Think of the people you work with that make a difference to your day, and give them a card to say ‘Thank You’ for their efforts.
- Offer your seat on the train/bus to someone else; even if the person is younger or fitter
- Recognise things you’re good at, and keep an eye around for people that may need some help with that. It may be making a dinner for a friend who is going through rough times; helping your coworker fix her computer after her 12-year old broke it; or carry that heavy suitcase for the lady that looks like she’s struggling as she tries to get out of the bus.

Pass It Forward kits
You don’t need to be a Boy scout to Be Prepared‘ (Scouts’ motto) to Do a Good Turn Daily (Scout’s slogan). All you need is to assemble a PIF kit right now, and keep your eyes open for the next opportunity to help someone in need. So what does a PIF kit look like? Below is a photo of mine:
So how do you pull together a PIF kit? Below are some ideas on how to do this:
- Get “free ______” vouchers. I personally like the 2-for-1 offers of the Entertainment Books
, but you don’t need to spend money to get a few vouchers; look at your supermarket docket, and you will find a wealth of offers that may be useful to someone else. - Create a ‘PIF fund’ for small deeds by creating a ‘loose change jar’ at home or at work. Every day, grab a handful of coins, and be ready to spend it on someone who needs it. Hint: You are better off buying something for a homless person that giving them coins; this way you can ensure your hard-earned money truly goes towards food and shelter instead of drugs of alcohol.
- Get a small plastic wallet to carry your PIF kit. I like the ones they give away with seasonal train tickets, mostly because they have two sides, the perfect size for vouchers and cards. Whatever you choose, make it something that you won’t leave behind because it is too bulky. Remember that the idea is to Be Prepared to Do a Good turn daily, so having this with you at all times is imperative.
- (optional) Get a bunch of PIF Cards. You can either download them from this web site and print them yourself, or order a customised card for your own use (just email us at info [at] pifaustralia (dot) org and we will organise it for you)
Just put it all together, and start your journey towards daily giving!
